Umbra's Moonshadows
A new logic puzzle every day in three sizes, plus endless practice grids. Cast every moon's shadow and cover the night.
- Each moon casts one straight shadow (up, down, left or right) as many squares long as its number. A moon with no number casts one any length.
- Cover every empty square with exactly one shadow. Stars stay lit, and shadows never cross.
Drag from a moon to cast its shadow. Every empty square needs exactly one.
A free daily logic puzzle
Umbra's Moonshadows has three new grids every day, easy, medium and hard, the same for everyone, new at midnight UTC. Every grid has exactly one answer, and you can always reach it by reasoning: no guessing, ever. Practice grids are endless, in all three sizes.
How to play Moonshadows
Each moon on the board casts one straight shadow: up, down, left or right, exactly as many squares long as its number. Moons without a number can cast a shadow of any length. Cast every moon's shadow so that each empty square sits in exactly one shadow. Stars stay lit, and no shadow may cross another, a star, a moon or the edge.
Tips from Umbra
Start where there's little room: a moon by the edge or between stars has fewer ways to go. Look for squares only one moon can reach: that moon's shadow must cover them. And when two ways seem possible, follow one a few steps: if it leaves a square no shadow can reach, it's the other.
